On November 19th, the English Corner was held at 6: 00 p.m. on the fist floor of the library. Ms. Dulene Cipiriano, Mr. Leck Wall, Mr. Lucas Wilfong and Dr. Aviva Shimelman were the overseas teachers who attended this activity.
While the students were talking about accent, Ms. Dulene Cipiriano said that she thought Australian and Zelanian accents were very lovely. However, the English majors were more likely to learn standard British or American accent. Mr. Lucas Wilfong was interested in animals. He told a joke that in America, to defend against attacks from fierce animals was one of the reasons why people were allowed to carry private guns. What’s more, he wanted to know more about bows and arrows.
Mr. Leck Wall and students talked about the importance of controlling facial expression. In his view, controlling facial expression is a way to protect oneself. He gave an example, which is when he was playing cards, he would keep his facial expression without emotion so that people couldn’t know whether he held good cards or bad ones. But on the other hand, people should keep smiling to get along well with people .
In English Corner, overseas teachers expressed their own opinions and ideas. In this way, students could know more about teachers from the the other part of the ocean.
